Modern science has gone through many ideas and theories leading to modern quantum mechanics. At the heart of quantum theory is that idea that everything that you know as life, everything that you know as matter and nature, everything that you know as the cosmos and galaxies, is just one universal energy field which manifests itself in millions of ways.
Mahashivratri is a millennia old yogic tradition that is based on this same understanding. There is only one energy that manifest in a myriad of forms. The practice of yoga is learning how to harness this energy for your greatest wellbeing.
The fourteenth day of every lunar month is the day before the new moon. This day is known as Shivratri. Among the twelve Shivratris that occur in a calendar year, the one that occurs in February-March is known as Mahashivratri for it is the most significant. On this night, the earth on its rotation around the sun, is positioned in such a way that there is a natural upsurge of energy in a human bodies. We all know the effects of the moon on our psyche and mind. On this day when the effects of the moon is at its lowest we are able to be most focused.
It is to make use of this natural phenomenon that we celebrate Mahashivratri. There is three aspects vital to the benefiting from this powerful day and night.
1. Eat foods that are nutritious and easy to digest so you can maximise your energy output.
2. Practice Yoga Sequences that re-aligns the spine so you may keep it upright and perfectly positioned.
3. Try to stay upright for most of the night. To allow this natural upsurge of energies to have the greatest impact on the brain, one of the fundamentals of this nightlong festival is to ensure that you remain awake with your spine vertical through the night.
For those attending the I-Yoga – Great Night of Transformation we recommend the following diet on the day of 21 February 2020.
· Follow a vegan diet (no meat, eggs or diary)
· Avoid all grains (rice, oats, wheat, millet)
· Eat fresh fruit, vegetable, nuts and seeds but try to avoid using sea salt – vegetable salt
may be used.
· Drink teas, coffees as you wish but substitute your milk for soy or a nut milk.
· Try to have your last meal by 5pm as we begin our Yoga Practice at 7pm.
We will be providing vegan food and drinks that will keep you sustained after the Yoga practice and all evening . All food will be in keeping with this diet.
For your comfort on the evening please bring with you:
1. Your yoga mat
2. A very warm wrap or blanket
3. A meditation cushion – or any cushion that is comfortable for you to sit on.
